Liposuction/Fat
Transfer also known as lipoplasty ("fat modeling") or simply lipo is a minimally
invasive procedure that removes fat from unwanted part of the body. This same
fat can be injected into area of body where contouring is desired(fat transfer)
and can serve as a good substitute for prosthetic implants or silicone implants
which we noticed in many especially the pigment skin that they are averse to.
Areas of concern for body sculpturing are the abdomen, thighs,
breasts, hips, pubis, buttocks,
male breast tissue, the chin/neck, back of the arms, the love handles, the legs and the
forehand.
In fat transfer and liposuction over the years, improvements
have been made that more fat cells can now be more easily be removed and
transfer, with less blood loss, less discomfort, and less risk with the technique
called tumescent fluids.
Recent developments also suggest that the recovery period can
be shortened as well. Most people are able to get up and move around as soon as
the treatment is finished and after the effects of the anesthesia or sedation
have worn off. You can return to your normal activities as soon as you feel
comfortable. Most people can return to work within a few days. Recovery may
take longer if large areas were treated.
Power assisted liposuction
procedure
Our
clinic, Grandville Medical and Laser, we make use of the power assisted
liposuction machine with tumescent technique in liposuction and fat transfer. This technique uses cannula that has a spinning end to
break the fat while the fat is being suctioned. This
technique has been proven to reduce bruising and bleeding,
less risk and discomfort.
Liposuction is usually done as an outpatient procedure in our properly equipped clinic. In general,
it does not require an overnight hospital stay unless a large volume of fat is
being removed or additional procedure is done. Local anesthesia is used in some
cases and you may or may not be given a sedative to help you relax. If a large
area or volume of fat is being treated, general anesthesia or deep sedation
with a local anesthetic may be used.
Our fat transfer is by use of Tulip cannula an American
device with careful separation of the fat before transfer is being done to
requested areas of the body eg the butt or the face.
What To
Think About
Liposuction
should be done only by a doctor who has special training in liposuction and
surgery of the skin and in how to respond to complications during surgery. You
will also be at less risk for complications if liposuction is not done at the
same time as other cosmetic procedures.
Common
side effects of liposuction include:
·
Temporary swelling, bruising,
soreness, and numbness in and around the treated areas.
·
Irritation and minor scarring around
the incision sites where the cannulas were inserted.
·
Baggy or rippling skin. The skin
will usually tighten and retract after a few months. But in some people the
skin may remain somewhat loose.
STRETCH MARKS:
The dermis is
95% of the total skin volume and when the dermis is constantly overstretched it
can break down and leave stretch marks behind. Stretch marks occur when skin
doesn't bounce back after it's been stretched due to pregnancy, rapid weight
gain, extreme weight loss, or use of toning and bleaching products. Hence,
stretch marks seem to be caused, literally, by stretching of the skin.
Focus of stretch
mark treatment will be to restore the structural integrity of the skin by
increasing the thickness of the skin and stimulating collagen formation. This
could be achieved by using the following products:-Copper Serum, SND Corrector,
and Intensive Scar repair with Microneedle.
We also have the
fraxel or fractional laser or simply called the CO2 laser that we use in the
treatment of stretch mark.
The areas
treated with the CO2 laser or fraxel laser might be sore for some days but the
skin strength and integrity is restored back in no time.
Other functions
of the CO2 laser include vaginal tightening, pigment removal, skin resurfacing
etc.
GLUTATHIONE SKIN WHITENING TREATMENT:
Glutathione is
an antioxidant that helps whiten the skin, synthesize and repair DNA,
facilitate the recycling of vitamins C and E and it is made of all-natural
amino acids that occur in nature and are beneficial to our bodies. Glutathione
can be found in many healthy foods that people eat on a regular basis, some of
which are actually considered among the healthiest foods in the world such as
asparagus, broccoli, spinach, garlic, raw tomatoes and avocadoes however they
won’t actually work to whiten your skin.
Glutathione is
commonly taken in pill form or it can also be taken via intravenous injection,
though you’ll need to visit your dermatologist to have this procedure done.
Glutathione injections are highly effective and as such many dermatologists
recommend Glutathione injections because they get 100-percent of the dose into
your bloodstream. This antioxidant slows your body’s aging process and helps
the body to detoxify. Most people use glutathione in the treatment of skin
blemishes such as moles, freckles, uneven skin tone, age spot, skin patches,
spots, wrinkles and getting a light skin. Therefore it is the best anti-aging
product in the market.
HAIR LOSS
Hair
loss, also known as alopecia, is a loss of hair from the head or body. Traction alopecia is a small or localized hair
loss area caused by repetitive or persistent pulling or traction on hair roots.
Tight braids and ponytails can pull hard enough on hairs to make them fall out.
Baldness can refer to general hair loss or male pattern hair loss. Hair loss
may cause gradual thinning, bald patches, or complete baldness
Causes:
As we age, our hair naturally begins to thin.
For both men and women, the most common cause of hair loss (alopecia) is
heredity, as your likelihood of experiencing hair loss increases if your
relatives have experienced hair loss.
Other contributing factors may include underlying medical or hormonal
problems, medications, excessive weight loss, stress, chemotherapy or
radiation. Signs of hair loss vary by
each person and symptoms can include sudden loss of patches of hair, noticeable
thinning on the scalp or crown, a receding hair line or excessive shedding.
Treatment
(Hair Regrowth): Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) may be used as a treatment for hair
regrowth. For optimal results, Grandville Medical and Laser is the best place to
have your Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) cosmetic treatment
PLASTIC SURGEONS FUNCTIONS
Plastic
surgery includes many types of reconstructive surgery which includes hand
surgery, microsurgery, and the treatment of burns. Plastic surgery, as a
specialty, has evolved remarkably during the 20th century gaining increasing
importance during the treatment of World War I soldiers with complex
maxillofacial injuries. The first plastic surgery was done in India during the
shusruta era 600bc and was later exported to Europe. There are however
contemporary American plastic Surgeons who existed with the European era of
plastic surgeons. Please note that plastic surgeon did not originate from
America and American plastic surgeons are not the best plastic surgeon. They
however have very good PR and balance system of regulation.
For
your education about procedures in Plastic Surgery?
Reconstructive
plastic surgery is performed to correct problems caused by burns, traumatic
injuries e.g gun shot injuries, road traffic accident, congenital abnormalities,
developmental abnormalities, infection and disease, and cancer or tumors. While
the general purpose of reconstructive plastic surgery is to improve function,
it may also be performed to restore or approximate a normal appearance.
The
most common reconstructive procedures are tumor removal, laceration repair,
scar repair or revision, hand surgery, and breast reduction. Other common
reconstructive surgical procedures include breast reconstruction after a
mastectomy(breast removal after breast cancer),cleft palate and lip surgery,
contracture surgery in burn survivors, and creating a new outer ear when one is
congenitally absent.
In
plastic surgery, skin grafting is a very common procedure. Skin grafts can be
taken from either the recipient or donors (autografts are from the recipient,
allografts from the donor, and xenografts from a donor of a different species).
When
local tissue is not available, plastic surgeons use microsurgery to transfer
tissue to cover a defect by removing it from one part of the body, moving to
another site on the body, and reconnecting it to a blood supply by suturing
arteries and veins as small as 1 to 2 millimeters in diameter.
Sub-specialties
Plastic
surgery is a broad field, and may be subdivided further. Plastic surgeons train
and receive approval from Board of Plastic Surgery in such surgical fields as:
Burns
– This specialty is in two phases: Acute burn surgery specializes in treatment
immediately after a burn, while reconstructive burn surgery occurs after the
burn wounds have healed. These is the aspect that manage problems that arises
from burn complications like contracture and so on.
Cosmetic,
or aesthetic, surgery is an essential component of plastic surgery. Plastic
surgeons use cosmetic surgical principles in all reconstructive procedures as
well as in operations designed to improve overall appearance. This area involve
nose reconstruction,anti-aging eg administration of Botox, dermafilers,PRP to
mention a few.
Craniofacial
surgery is divided into two categories: pediatric and adult. Pediatric surgery
mostly involves the treatment of congenital anomalies of the craniofacial
skeleton and soft tissues.
Adult
craniofacial surgery deals mostly with fractures and secondary surgeries (such as
orbital reconstruction i.e. Eye socket area.
Craniofacial
surgery is a crucial part of all plastic surgery training programs. This area is
also being handled by the maxilla-facial Surgeon.
Hand
surgery deals with acute injuries and chronic diseases of the hand and wrist,
correction of congenital malformations of the upper extremities, and peripheral
nerve problems (such as carpal syndrome). It is of emphasis that the doctor to
see following hand injuries are the plastic Surgeons and not anyone else because
of the peculiarity of the structures in the hand. This aspect also involve
injury to the wrist all the way to the elbow and the shoulder.Even though the
hand is define in Medicine from the tip of your digits to the wrist.
Many
have seen with resultant contracture because of improper care or poorly managed
hand injuries.
Microsurgery
is generally concerned with the reconstruction of missing tissues by
transferring a piece of tissue to the reconstruction site and reconnecting
blood vessels. This could be in form of skin or flap as we may call it. These
procedures usually take a long time averaging about 6-12 hours in handling. Suffice
me to say that every plastic surgeon is trained in the aspect of microsurgery
however; there are colleagues that have desire more interest in this area.
This can be seen in scenario of people
involved in road traffic accident with loss of some skin part (just a skeletal
description) and the defect cannot be allowed to heal on its own or it is too
big to heal on its own or there is exposed important structures e.g. bone,
tendon and so on.
Popular
subspecialty areas are breast reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction, and
hand surgery.
Pediatric
plastic Surgery-The plastic Surgeon functions in Children often stem from the
fact that children face medical issues unique from the experiences of an adult
patient. Pediatric plastic surgeons specialize in treating birth defects or
syndromes present at birth that are best treated in childhood.
Conditions
commonly treated by pediatric plastic surgeons include craniofacial anomalies,
cleft lip and palate, and congenital hand deformities e.g. fused digits, multiple
digits, macrosomia (children with too wide mouth), Anotia or microtia (absent
or small ear).
Wound
care: This is another area of plastic surgery that many don't realize and they
end up struggling with wound that should heal in few days in months.
The
best people to take care of any wound are the plastic Surgeon. I will say this
that for a lot of plastic surgeons clinics in Nigeria 60% of the patients are
wound and wound care issue. Even in some cases the other wounds created by
other surgeons are managed eventually by the plastic Surgeons after
complications of the procedure.
Maxillofacial
plastic surgery- These area involve cleft lip and palate, Avulsion injury with
need for scalp rotations to cover defective area following road traffic
accident,scalp tumor and so on.
Bariatric
Surgery-this is an area that deals with obese patient. The plastic surgeons in
collaborative work with the general surgeon first either band the stomach to
reduce the size of the abdomen or reduce the size of the stomach and with
subsequent weight loss can then do removal of the excess skin.
This
section may also involve removal of fat from the body called liposuction with
little or no scar on the body.
Things
like foot injuries, wound on the legs fractured for small bones on both hand
and foot are the duty of a plastic surgeon.
CONGENITAL CLEFT LIP AND PALATE
Cleft lip and cleft palate are birth defects that occur when
a baby’s lip or mouth do not form properly during pregnancy. Together, these
birth defects commonly are called “orofacial clefts”. These birth defects
happen early during pregnancy. A baby can have a cleft lip, a cleft palate, or
both a cleft lip and cleft palate.
This
is one of the commonest childhood anomalies. The body during the process of
face forming in utero may end up with structural failure appearing as
deformities. Children or adult born with this deformity are not nuisance to the
society and are normal children and they are as intelligent as any other
children born without a defect.
With our smile train partnership we offer free surgery to both children and adult born with the defect involving the lip and the palate. We offer world class reconstructive surgery of this defect
