Fan detained and banned after smoke bomb thrown at Hamilton
A teenage football fan has been sentenced to
five months at a Young Offenders Institute for letting off a smoke bomb
during a match in Scotland.
Calum Smith, 18, pleaded guilty to setting off a smoke bomb
at New Douglas Park during Hamilton's Scottish Premiership clash with
Motherwell on September 19, 2015.Smith, who was also given a two-year Football Banning Order, was seen by police and arrested when attempting to leave the ground after the match.
Stephen Ferguson, Football Liaison Prosecutor for the West of Scotland, said: "Setting off smoke bombs or any pyrotechnics at a football match is stupid and dangerous.
"Such irresponsible behaviour will not be tolerated and police and prosecutors are determined to identify offenders and bring them to justice."
Smith was also given a further two months detention for breaching his bail conditions by attending another Hamilton v Motherwell match on January 2, 2016.
The banning order means he is barred from attending any regulated football match in the United Kingdom for two years.
